Portrait of Mlle Suzanne Meryen of the Variétés, 1913

In 1913, Gino Severini mounted a solo exhibition at the Marlborough Gallery in London which included this portrait of a Parisian actress. The dedication was added at a later date, when Severini presented it to the Futurist leader. It reads: “To my dear friend Marinetti / in memory of the wonderful manifestations / of days gone by, with enduring affection / Gino Severini”.
